Why I love light.

Sunlight that is.
On the same afternoon, at the same time (taken seconds apart), in the same location at the same shoot you can take one photo with the sun behind your object and one with it in front and two completely different looks.
Light: behind the object/in front of me:
Light: In front of the object/ behind me:
Isn’t that amazing?
One of my favorite parts of photography is playing with the natural light God provides. Sometimes I love the warm look of the sun on a face, and sometimes I love the way you can blow out the background by shooting into the light. The photo takes on a whole new look depending on the light.
And trust me, I still am in the experiment stages… I trash a lot of photos b/c I had the light and my settings wrong (I shoot in full manual). But that’s the beauty of digital I guess, you can take a million photos to really practice and play.
Here are a few more examples of extreme lighting…

Light: behind subject

Light: in front of subject
Light: behind the subject (my two favorite boys!)
Light: in front of the subject
So there you go… now take September to PLAY with your camera! Get out there at different times of day, use shade and sun, put your camera in MANUAL and leave it there, forget you own a flash and PLAY! Practice practice practice!
Hello September. We’re going to document the hell out of you and in 30 days we’ll all have learned something!
*If you ever have any questions about how I do something please feel free to leave the question in the comments or email me directly…
